This previously unpublished 1922 photo of Witter Bynner alongside friends Patricio Calabazza and Rafael Lovato shows one of the men wearing a Santo Domingo necklace, revealing both pre-Depression dating and Bynner’s instant appreciation of such jewelry as the real deal.
