Around three percent of skeletal remains from Pueblo Bonito show
evidence of polydactylism. Typically, about 0.2 percent of people have
this condition. The remains of the six-toed individuals had been buried
with high status items such as jet, turquoise, and ankle bracelets and
were typically located in or near rooms of ritual importance, indicating
that the individuals were somehow special or part of an elite
ruling family.
