The Martinez homes, now an indelible part of the NHCC’s architectural look, are representative of mid-twentieth century architecture and growth of the Barelas neighborhood. Highlighted on this April 1957 Sanborn Fire Insurance map are the homes that are still present on campus (circled at lower middle left), as well as the West San José Public School (lower middle right), now NHCC’s History and Literary Arts Building.
